It is already that time of the year again and AEP is in full swing!! To all who are unfamiliar with this term, AEP stands for the Annual Enrollement Period. AEP lasts from October 15th to December 7th and occurs every year to give beneficiaries on Medicare an opportunity to revise their coverage. In most cases, this is typically the ONLY time that individuals can do so.

By now, you should have received your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) Letter that summarizes any revisions to your current coverage. This is usually provided by your carrier with whom your policy is with.

With each new year, change is inevitable. And we’re certain that we can all agree that this year has come with more change than ever before! Some people utilize the opportunities given during AEP to find a policy that more appropriately suits their needs, while others like to price shop to find something that better reflects their budget. Some use it ensure they are receiving all of the benefits that are available to them, while others use it to remain in network with their trusted doctor / physician.

During AEP, you are able to take any of the following actions:

  • Change from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan
  • Return to Original Medicare from a Medicare Advantage Plan
  • Switch from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another
  • Add a Part D plan
  • Cancel a Part D plan
  • Switch from one Part D plan to another

We also like to remind our clients that you don’t HAVE to make any changes during AEP, but we suggest scheduling an annual review with your licensed agent – just in case.

If any adjustments are made to your coverage this fall, you will have to wait until January 1st for changes to go into effect. Our agents at Senior Benefits Services are here to assist you in any way possible during AEP!
